Naturally Nails: Ocean reminiscence

Heyhey,

It's FEBRUARY already. OMG people, how time flies - before we know it it'll be CNY, Good friday, April fools, labour day, Mother's day, Vesak day, my birthday, Father's day, Hari raya puasa, National day, children's day, teacher's day, Hari raya haji, Halloween, Deepavali, Thanks giving, christmas eve and christmas DAY OMG! That was a mouth full.

I was feeling particularly inspired this week esp because I've been wanting to try out blue ombre nails for the LONGEST, LONGEST TIME. Put on this design the moment I recieved my newest addition to my polish collection in the mail. 
CHECK MY NAILS OUT!

In descening order of darkness: Canmake No.50, Essie coat Azure, OPI what's with the cattitude, OPI liquid sand Get my number. 

I swear, the pictures don't do this justice at all, this design is one of my best designs EVER. G.O.R.G.E.O.U.S not just IMO but in my friends' and family as well, got quite a few compliments ^^ The way the blues transition into one another and the way that the liquid sand sparkle in the sunlight just give me the image of the ocean. Not talking about the green waters here in Singapore but the crystal clear blue waters of other coasts. Heck, this doesn't even need the afternoon sun to do it justice, it twinkles so beautifully indoors as well. It's got this whole inner glow thing going on. All in all i really LOVE this one. Beautiful MAX.

Rmb how I was saying in my last gradient post (click here) that I would try out the whole paint a base layer on nails first and then create the gradient on the sponge including the base layer itself to create a more natural blended effect. WELL I did it here and boy were the results awesome. Achieved the most natural ombre EVER you could barely see where the colours end.

Here's how I did it

The breakdown:1. Using the darkest blue of your gradient (Canmake No.50), apply a base layer to the nails
2. Using a sponge, paint the colours in descening order of darkness on the sponge and quickly transfer to the nails. Use a dabbing motion and make sure to move the sponge up and down the nails to blend the colours better. Do not over do the dabbing (don't want muddy looking coloours) and be sure to work quickly as dry polish will stick to the sponge as you dab and remove itse;f from your nails
3, Apply glitter coat of your choice to make the transition look that much more seamless. (make sure that your glitter coat is sheer enough for the colours below to peek through, for obvious reaons. Don't want to waste that gorgeous ombre you just created on your nails of course)
SEE 3 simple steps and your done. It doesn't take long at all to do but looks like you spent hours and hours on it. 

Tip: if you feel that you lost some of the colours through the blending process, just add the corresponding colour to the sponge and dab in the deficient areas. I call this "spot dabbing". For those of you who are perfectionistic like me. xD

Can I just say again how I think this combination is awesome. THIS.IS.AWESOME! 
Thank goodness I can keep this combination on my nails for longer than usual =) More time to show it off to the world! Ok joking I don't really flaunt my nails but it still feels good when people notice it. C'mon they are blue for crying out loud, how not to see!
Warning: This is however, not very CNY appropriate so please do not rock this look if your family is extremely traditional.

Here's how they look under the sun. The camera cannot capture the shine of them but I don't blame the camera cos I think even the best of cameras may not be able to capture it. You can't focus on the glitter yet capture the "refraction" of light from the glitter piece. Just doesn't work that way.
Yes yes went a little overboard with the photo spam but can you blame me?

Ok got a test coming up this Monday so... I gotta hit the books before I sink into an abyss of no return. One of my friends posted a very wise post: One has to suffer 2 types of pain in life - the pain of discipline, or the pain of regret. Very true, VERY TRUE. I am a very free spirited person and consequently have no discipline so.... I probably always go through the latter. Sigh....
On a brighter note. I'm done with my CNY outfits. Got my 2nd outfit online. How convenient it that! xD

Naturally Nails: Butter London Trout Pout Swatch

Hey Hey,

Hope everyone's been surviving their respective examinations. HALLELUJAH! It is finally december, the marking of yet another end of the year. I've been seen friends post status about advent calender?! Took me a while to recell, can you guess recall where this particular word came from?! Can't recall? Keep reading to find out!

As you all know, Black Friday was somewhen last week. Singapore doesn't exactly have black friday, physcially at least. Come to think of it, there probably isn't a 24 hour mall in Singapore at all. Wouldn't it be cool if we had one, or maybe if shops in Orchard opened 24/7 on saturday nights. I won't have to worry about food places, hesistate to go out of the house at 8pm in the night and all that jazz. Anyway, thankfully though online stores give us the liberty of enjoying it. I got myself something I've been eyeing for the longest time. Just 1 small item. A really modest haul xD

Here it is!

Butter London Trout Pout

OMG it is finally in my hands, if you follow me on Instagram@Plainlypicturesque you would have seen my little glamed up picture of my most recent haul. WHOOOO. Can't tell you how excited I was when I placed the order for this. It was going for a good 30% of the normal price on Luxola.com. More on that later

Trout pout is a stunning coral shade that has the perfect mix of pink and orange in it. It has this almost neon quality to it that makes my tummy do loop de loops. It is what I envisioned Essie's Haute as hello to be and MORE.
This colour has been raved a bazillion times in the beauty community already so I shan't go on rambling about it. Just that I love it, and it is the perfect colour. Very flattering on olive skin tones.

Sadly to say though I have issues with the application. I read reviews on trout pout and a handful of them complained about trout pout being too thick awfully streaky, while I don't agree, I can't disagree either. Like that makes any sense.... I wouldn't say it's streaky because it really isn't, besides the fact that it goes on quite smoothly despite it being a really bright almost neon colour is already pretty spectacular. Trout pout is more patchy IMO. . 1 coat doesn't get you perfect coverage and leaves you with random bald spots that absolutely gets on my nerves! The part about the polish being thick is valid I guess but I feel that it's more of the brush's fault. The brush picks up a little too much product for my liking so you really have to clean off the excess product off to prevent a hot globby mess later on. The 2nd coat though seals the deal and assures you that:" yes, this is why so many people love this colour."
Still I have to say that for its steep price, this is not quality that I would settle with because again, OPI makes wonderful polish for half the price. They aren't all perfect but they are generally awesome. Then again, loads of other butter london colours I've heard are off the charts as well. They'd better BE for the price.

While this coral baby is finally MINE to own. My first EVER butter London polish. I have to just make a comment on the process of acquiring it. I bought this off luxola.com for a steal of $17.50. Thank you black friday. That's the price that you'll get it in the US, or at least from what I calculated. (Warning, I am born bad at math.) According to their website, you'll have to have someone BE home on the day that they are delievering the product to you if not you'll INCUR A SURCHARGE OF $10 FOR REDELIVERY (if your product is So.. on the supposed day of the delivery, I was home for the entire day (10am to 6pm as specified by luxola) and no one came to ring the doorbell... Strange but I thought perhaps they'd swing by the next day. Then, I received a call at 5pm saying that an attempt was made to deliver but I wasn't home. I was completely MINDBLOWN like how in the world could I have missed my door bell. (PS I was wide awake), even if I were taking a number 2, I would have heard it. Besides, there were others at home too, surely they would have gotten the door. I relayed this to the caller and he said ok, there will be a redelivery tmr. TheEND. At this time, I wasn't aware of the surcharge policy so I was like ok. It wasn't till like 10pm in the night when I scrutinised the fine print. Ugh. it really gave me a heart attack. No way in hell am I paying $10, MORE THAN DOUBLE the price of my product to get it delivered.. Being the super crazy anxious person that I am, I speedily wrote an email to them which they read early in the morning. Nonetheless there was only so much they could do cause the delivery guy already set off.
So the door bell rang the next morning at 9am. OMG SO EARLY. And I got my lovely product. THANKFULLY there was no surcharge given and I lived happily ever after since then. OMG can you imagine my horror if I were to be charged $10 buck. What's the point of the black friday discount then. -_-"
But yeah, that's the lame story of my so called "ordeal"

Ok, so I was clearing up my polish the other day and I chanced across Essie Haute as hello and I was like NO NO NO NO NO they look crazyily similar! I just had to swatch them side by side. To my relief they are WORLDS APART. In colour and in quality. For those complaining of the streakiness of Trout pout, do try out Haute as hello, you'll be pleasantly horrified. Haute as hello is what I call STREAKY. Not to mention, totally UNsmooth. See my previous post on it for more details. As you can see, haute as hello is exuberate a more orange outlook as compared to the strong warm pink tones from trout pout. Both top coatless. I think you can tell the winner from this picture.

Alright, for those of you guys wondering about the advent calander thing who haven't already googled it, it's from NEOPETS. The childhood game of my generation. Hahah it's great to reminisce. My favourite game was trouble at the neopian bank! 

Some random updates, I've been super into this acappella group called pentatonix. Go check them out if you haven't. They are GOOD. ESP carol of the bells and AHA. Awesome stuff. Can't wait for the exams to be over FOR I CAN GO FOR RETAIL THERAPY AND SEE MY BF AGAIN! Spoken like a true bimbo.

Naturally Nails: Cobalt Blue Jellysandiwch Reverse Switch Up

There is something about me and cobalt/electric blue lately. I seem to be exaggeratedly attracted to it, allured by that subtle yet bold aura it exuberates. I'm not just talking about nails, I'm also talking about eye looks, tees, shorts, dresses, bags, SHOES. Everything. You name it. I think I already have cobalt coloured shorts and dresses. LOL I'm super proud of my shorts collection because I'm on a quest to collect every colour there is, provide it fits me duh and looks pretty! I'll save this story for another day though.

Anyways, so.. I'm all over the whole jelly sandwich thing. Tried it the moment it was known to me and LOVED IT. Here's my first ever try and post on it. Whoever invented it is a genius. Imma telling you, If I were to own all the jelly and glitter polishes out there, I would wear the jelly sandwich combination to death but there's an obvious limitation for me, I don't own that many glitter. I poured through my collection to find a suitable colour.
There are so many crazy ones out there but here's mine at the moment.

Canmake No.50 and Essie Set in Stones

Rmb how I said in my previous post that canmake No. 50 is a gorgeous blue jelly. Here's how the colour really looks with 1 coat. Read my previous post for a review on it. The cobalt defnitely reflects better with a single THIN coating. This polish goes on ALMOST opaque on the first coat already so you have to be careful to take only what you need for a nice thin even coating on the nails. As you can see I struggled a little with the consistency as thin coats tend to be very tricky to apply. You can end up with hideous bald spots and all. Urgh, irritating. 

Strange though how this is probably the only time I wish that my polishes were a little less pigmented than they there. Oh the irony of life

Decided to switch up the jelly sandwich technique and do a as I like to call it, reverse Jelly sandwich. Which is effectively just putting glitter on top of the jelly polish LOL. But it definitely sounds cooler when you call it revere jelly sandwich ^^

The Breakdown1. Apply Essie Set in Stone over entire surface of nail, making sure that glitter pieces are evenly spread out. Wait to dry COMPLETELY. The clear base gets very goop so you won't want to paint over it when it's semi dry, you'll end up with some heck of a hot mess
2. Apply a THIN layer of canmake No.50. You should still be able to see the glitter pieces showing through. It you can't, it's too thick. Try to thin the layer out before it's dried
3.  Apply Essie Set in Stone over the top half or less of the nail. Again making sure to evenly spread out and densely pack on the glitter piceses for the best effect

Done! Easy Peasy. Loving the different textures going on, I think it gives the look so much more sophistication and depth. PRETTY!

Ok my 4th finger was supposed to be the accent nail but it doesn't stand out that much and it completely covered my jelly sandwich at the bottom =( But it's pretty nonetheless.

Here's a close up of the look! Excuse the mess! I love essie set in stones. The whole thing about different sized glitter really clicks with me. It's GREAT!!! Simple yet different. I've used this polish in so many of my looks it's an integral part of my life now. I hope I don't run out of it because I think it's limited edition =(( Tempted to get a second bottle it I can get my hands on it.

Life update: Ytd, I unlocked yet another acheivement in life. In my 21 years, I've never stayed out past 12.30am, never been to a pub and never watched a late night movie. I know, judge me. All that changed yet. I went to timbre, watch a late night movie and got home at 4am. OMG.... Thank god for cars. Anyways. It was a blast! I got lost like crazy, drove in the jam, clamoured for parking spaces in town and all that jazz. It was trusly a whoel new experience. HAHAHAHA. Awesome! BTW, if you guys didn't already know, timbre @ old school is CLOSED PERMANENTLY. The BF and I scoured the entire Mt Sophia road, as it WALKED from 1 end to the other only to find out from someone that it's been closed for a while now. We were like, i think we'll try to find timbre by listening out for a live band but LOL none whatsoever. Just the dead of the night and really errie looking houses. Should have known that it was the former tenent of the now montessori house on the hill LOL. I know, noob muvh. But I mean, we went on the basis of the instructions, climb the long flight of staircase and you'll reach timbre LOL. Imagine our confused faces when we were greeted with secluditiy and silence. LOL. So we journey to timbre @ substation instead. Managed to catch the live band which we could hear from miles away! They played Gangnam style LOL LOL!
Also I hereby declare google maps an app that does not show you shortcuts =( I love google maps, don't get me wrong but sometimes, it does troll you and bring you down excessively windy roundabouts lol!

Normal/Registered/Meetup

Meet up: Eunos MRT every Sunday 10am (no minimum order required), other location will be advised when the shipment has been received
Normal postage rate (bubble wrapped + Styrofoam) for nail polish:1 bottle: $1.50
2-3 bottles: $2.50
4-7 bottles: $3.50
More than 7 bottles: addition of $0.50 per extra bottle. (ie 8 bottles = $4.00)

For registered, please top up extra $2.24 ~Recommended~
